Book launch: The Tragedy of Man, edited by András Visky, 2020

András Visky

It interferes with the tradition of directorial albums due to the editor's open intention to print a book which can also serve students during their contemporary theatre and literature courses. This guided the author who, together with Demeter Kata, put together a presentation of Silviu Purcărete's works by citing fragments from various interviews and declarations. Special value to this beautiful literary piece created by Timotei Nădășan is given by Purcărete's legendary drawings and sketches made during rehearsals, which are now presented publicly for the first time. The publication of this book would not have been possible without the generous and considerate unlimited support of Attila Balázs, the manager of Csíky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre in Timișoara.” (Visky András)

"The book documents the staging of this theatre production in Timisoara, based on Imre Madách's dramatic poem - a Hungarian version of the classical Faust. Besides András Visky's detailed rehearsal diary, it also contains the exhaustive, elegant and sensual description written by Melinda Mátyus, as well as an portrait-essay by George Banu, already well-acquainted with Purcarete's directorial universes.
