"The Treasure City" is a show that delves beneath Cluj’s five-star glamour and asks: who’s paying the bill? With a stand-up rhythm and plenty of irony, the show explores how former industrial sites are becoming luxury neighborhoods, how land is hunted like gold, and how, behind the facade of a “smart city,” public space is disappearing. In a city where the price per square meter is the highest in the country, and real estate developers seem to be the new world-builders, the average person can no longer find their place. “The Magnet City,” “the Five-Star City,” “the Smart City,” “the Treasure City” are just a few of Cluj’s superlatives—a source of pride, but also of criticism from those increasingly affected by the dynamics of the real estate market. Between promises of progress and the reality of suffocating price hikes, The Treasure City is a journey through the process of accelerated urbanization, told with humor, energy, and perhaps a touch of nostalgia.
