Fractures and touches // Transylvanian Contemporary Dance (Romania)
Transylvanian Contemporary Dance (Romania)
The beginning of a relationship is the meeting of two separate worlds. Two people, with different pasts, different desires, different dynamics—somehow setting out on a collective journey. And what happens along the way? When the initial rose-colored haze completely dissipates? When the number of mundane weekdays and the volume of suppressed, less-than-romantic thoughts begin to mount? When misunderstandings born from momentary lapses of attention seem to emerge from thin air? What becomes of these two people in such moments? In this performance, we dissect the dynamics of a relationship: the ebb and flow that sometimes lifts us high, sometimes drags us down, and sometimes simply settles into a “boring void.” We immerse ourselves in seemingly trivial social mishaps that, for some reason, possess the power to turn the kitchen, the hallway, or the living room into a warzone. Yet we do not overlook the playful provocations, the silent sulks, the “nothing’s wrong”s, and the moments when everything truly is alright… or at least appears to be resolving. We do not view this as a defect. On the contrary. The moments of friction are painful, exhausting, and sometimes comical—but without them, there is no true intimacy. We shed parts of ourselves to make room for something new and filled with love. And this is not easy. A relationship is not a static state, but a process. A dance where two people, while minding their own steps, strive to remain attentive to the other's. This performance is an invitation to peer into these situations. To laugh together, to feel the tension together… and perhaps to recognize ourselves in them. As performers, we wish to evolve and refine ourselves alongside the audience. Perhaps this is how we can grow closer and become better to one another—and to ourselves.
