Another Happy Day

The story of Another Happy Day is a real one. The characters were flesh and blood people, the events happened and weren't nearly as funny. Unfortunately they're part of a small, personal and somewhat unknown history – that of the peasantry subjected to Collectivisation during the 1950s in what was then the Romanian Popular Republic.
This text is inspired by real events that took place in the village of Zorani (Timiș county) and it was collected within the “Moving Fireplaces” cultural project managed by the Prin Banat Association together with the Association Timișoara European Capital of Culture. It relates the real events that the family of Mrs. Rodica Oprea (born Oproni) lived through.
Another Happy Day tells the story of Serafin Oproni, who in the year 1956 refused to join the collective farm, showing strength of character and wit, resisting the intimidation tactics that the peasantry in those times was being subjected to.
It is a story of decency and human spirit fighting against the chicanery and abuse of a brutal, arrogant and condescending totalitarian state.
