The Beggar’s Opera
Kokan Mladenović–Góli Kornélia
“The world’s a whore or so it seems
Sell your body, that’s all you need
If everyone’s a whore, then who are we?
Then who are we?”
(Quotation from the show)

The Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre is a young, enthusiastic and internationally reknown company, always in search of new forms of artistic expression. It was founded in 1953 as part of the Romanian State Theatre and since 1957 it functions as an autonomous institution. The name Csiky Gergely was given to the institution in 1990. The theatre hosts bold projects in a rich and varied repertory that includes classical and contemporary theatre, non-verbal performances, musical shows and puppet theatre. One of the most important projects of the institution is TESZT, the Euroregional Festival of Theatre of Timișoara, organised for the eighth time in 2015. This international event aims to promote multiculturalism and to inform the public about the latest directions of theatre in the region. The festival works as a platform for cultural exchanges, sharing and communication for the artists and theatre professional invited.
