Don Quixote
Cervantes
In its time Don Quixote was considered an extremely modern novel. It proved surprisingly progressive for its style and structure, respectively for the satirycal presentation of the chosen topic. Our performance aims to recreate this unbelievably complex and wantonly colourful world, so that Don Quixote can come alive and become meaningful instead of just being a dusty outdated classic. We’ve decided to act out the more unusual and lesser known parts of the 1000 page book and used improvisation to create the scenes. This is not the first time Mucsi Zoltán and Scherer Péter, the actors playing the two main characters, have tried to make this show but until now they couldn’t succeed. Sancho, a simplistic small-minded man and Don Quixote, a knight maddened by his own fantasy world are not just two whimsical and funny characters but also a tragically frail pair of people who hang on to each other and have to constantly face themselves: they are the last representatives of the vanishing humanity.
Rába Roland (1974, Tatabánya) plays regularly in the shows of Proton Theatre and those directed by Mundruczó Kornél, but he is also known for his work in performances by Krétakör, the National Theatre from Budapest, Thália Theatre etc. In the show W.S. Othello (Studio K, directed by Zsótér Sándor) that premiered in the autumn of 2014, he plays Iago. He has also acted in films such as the Godly Shift and Couch Surf. His latest work as a director was the performance Last (Utolsó) at Trafó House of Contermporary Arts. Although he has worked with all the members from the distribution of Don Quixote, this is the first time he was invited to direct in this company.
