Eight Full Days of Theater at the Anniversary TESZT: the Fifteenth Edition of TESZT is Beginning!

The TESZT Euroregional Theater Festival officially begins on Sunday, May 19, 2024, under the slogan "Another Point of View" - with 24 performances that reflect the European theater of this moment. Tickets went on sale online and at the theater for 50 lei/show, respectively 30 lei/concert.

The opening gong of the festival will ring on Sunday at 3:30 pm in the foyer of the Hungarian Theatre, followed by the inaugural performance "100 toasts" performed by Via Negativa from Slovenia, a maverick performance to celebrate 15 successful editions of TESZT.

Critics say, about the shows in this year's selection, that they are bold, innovative, nonconformist, challenging for the audience, all with a common denominator: a fresh approach to contemporary theater. Most of the invited productions were chosen following an open call launched in 2023. At the end of each day, the public can actively attend a dialogue with the artists in the discussions moderated by theatrologist Kovács Bálint. The event will have simultaneous translation. All performances in TESZT are translated into Romanian, Hungarian and English - depending on the language of the performance.

The two outdoor productions, with free access, will be on May 21 and 22 - "Pentesilea" in Piața Libertății, 6:00 pm, respectively on May 25 and 26 from 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm - "Spread the Love" on Mărășești street. In partnership with the Proteszt Association, the festival will present in an international context three performances of the Timisoara Theater Companies, Unfold Motion, Basca Theater and the Independent Company Arte-Factum. The program also includes several productions from Hungary, as well as performances from France, Germany, Croatia, Serbia and Greece, who will join TESZT with the production-event "Taverna Miresia" on May 20, a visual poem about loss and reconciliation. Those interested can sign up for free to the workshops held by the invited artists: a bondage technique workshop, organized on May 20, and a seminar on street theater, on May 23, held by Stefano Té.

During the festival, the theater ticket office (Alba Iulia street no. 2) will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the last scheduled event. TESZT also offers subscriptions for ten performances of your choice – for 400 lei, and subscriptions for five performances of your choice – 200 lei, and subscriptions can only be purchased at the theater. Additional information about tickets and subscriptions can be asked by calling 0356-450.606 or visiting ticket@tm-t.ro. Membership packages also include your choice of a TESZT2024 bag or t-shirt.

The festival begins and ends with the productions of the host theater: on May 19 - "1978" directed by the Slovenian Tomi Janežič, nominated for two UNITER awards, and on May 26 - "Pericles" directed by the British Philip Parr. Before "Pericles", the exhibition of the Hungarian Theater’s actor, Mátyás Zsolt Imre, with drawings inspired by the show, will be opened.
